Broken Arrow, OK, 04/09/24 – Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith visited Gatesway Foundation campus in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and toured the historic grounds.  Commissioner Keith is a long-time advocate for Tulsa-area citizens living with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD).  Gatesway continues to be grateful for her advocacy on behalf of Friends and the I/DD Community as a whole.

Commissioner Keith, toured by Gatesway CEO, Greg Arend, viewed updated efforts for housing improvements across the Broken Arrow Campus, as well as visiting the newly-opened Legacy Home in the Broken Arrow community.

“We were honored to have Commissioner Keith come out to Gatesway and see some of the accomplishments we’ve made, and also talk about important projects we are working on in the next one-to-three years.” stated Arend.

During her visit, Commissioner Keith commented that Gatesway has elevated the lives of so many citizens in our area who otherwise would be at great risk for homelessness and other situations.  In her usual, candid style, Commissioner Keith shared this sentiment: “If Gatesway ever had to close, it would be a tragedy for the entire region.  All of us need to be part of the Gatesway long-term success.”

One highlight from the visit was Gatesway being able to share with Commissioner Keith an important project happening at Gatesway right now – the construction of four new 8-bed, 8-bath cottages as part of the Setting Standards campaign.  The Mabee Foundation has awarded Gatesway a challenge grant of $450,600, but the organization must raise an additional $1 million by October 10, 2024 to utilize the grant award.  “Gatesway needs the philanthropic community to step forward and help us, because we definitely cannot do this alone,” said Arend.
