Gatesway Plans a Summer Celebration

Local non-profit helping friends celebrate summer after virtualization of Special Olympics

After the devastating news that the 2020 Special Olympics had been shifted to virtual games, Gatesway held a Summer Celebration to help friends and their families return to normal. In true celebratory fashion, Gatesway had various events and activities planned, including carnival games, inflatables, and a barbecue during the day.

As an open event for friends, staff, and their families, no RSVP was required to attend this event. Guests were welcome to come and go as they pleased or stay throughout the duration of the event. Festivities and games began at 3:00pm and dinner was served at 5:00pm. Tulsa Drillers mascot Hornsby stopped by to visit attendees, play volleyball, and participate in a balloon release held in memoriam of loved ones who were lost to the pandemic.

Gatesway is a non-profit Oklahoma agency that encourages independence and provides opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to enable them to live and work in the community and improve their quality of life. In addition to holding community events like the Spring Celebration, Gatesway also provides employment services and residential services for friends and their families. Community support and charitable donations are crucial for our ability to continue the work Helen Gates envisioned and brought to life over 50 years ago.
