Gatesway Breaks Ground on Innovative Housing Project – Looks to Community for Support

Broken Arrow, OK, 10/11/24 – Gatesway Foundation is excited to announce breaking ground on its’ Broken Arrow campus this week. This initiative marks the implementation of the Foundation’s comprehensive plan to revolutionize housing for Green Country residents.  This project will provide housing solutions that support numerous diagnoses, such as autism, intellectual disabilities, and physical disabilities.

The first phase of this ambitious project includes:

- Four new 8-bed, 8-bath cottages to replace aging homes

- A large outdoor pavilion for social gatherings and recreational activities

This construction represents the initial step in a multi-phase plan to provide all Friends with new, updated housing tailored to their specific needs and desires. This is a landmark moment for Gatesway, as this project is the first initiative of its kind to offer such individualized living solutions for all residents.

"Gatesway needs the community now more than ever - today is just the beginning," said Greg Arend, CEO of the Gatesway Foundation.  "The new cottages and the community pavilion will significantly enhance our Friends’ quality of life.  This project is about creating homes and spaces that foster independence, community, and joy.  We hope generous hearts will be inspired to be part of this and future phases."

The new cottages are designed to offer a perfect blend of privacy and community living.  Each Friend will have their own bedroom and bathroom, promoting independence while still being part of a close-knit household.  The outdoor pavilion will serve as a central hub for social activities, providing a much-needed space for Friends to relax, interact, and enjoy outdoor events.  Gatesway invites communities throughout Green Country to help with the project via donations at https://www.gatesway.org/settingstandards/.

“This project is a testament of our commitment to provide Friends with the best possible living environment," added Mr. Arend.  "We're not just replacing old structures; we're building an inclusive, comfortable, and enriching life for all Friends.  We hope the Tulsa and Broken Arrow communities will participate in our efforts to provide quality housing for people with disabilities."

Construction began on Monday, October 7th.  The first phase is expected to be completed by June 2025. Gatesway Foundation is working closely with Lee Signature Homes to ensure minimal disruption to current residents during construction.
