Gatesway Foundation
Serving People with Disabilities Since 1963
MISSION STATEMENT:
Gatesway's Mission is to encourage independence and provide opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities that will enable them to live and work in the community and improve their quality of life.
Gatesway is a non-profit Oklahoma agency that provides residential and vocational options and supports people with intellectual disabilities.
Gatesway was founded in 1963, by Helen Gates, to provide alternatives for persons with intellectual disabilities such as her son, Ronnie, who was born with Down syndrome. Over the past 48 years, Gatesway has grown into a comprehensive regional resource that has touched the lives of thousands of individuals and their families. Today, we provide services for nearly 500 people with intellectual disabilities.
Gatesway provides a full array of residential services ranging from a restrictive setting requiring 24-hour staffing to programs that provide staffing as needed. These services include: three developmental living centers, twelve group homes, two apartment buildings, supported living, assisted living and companion programs.
Gatesway's goal is to assure all people served acquire the living skills, vocational skills, and social skills necessary to help them become a vital part of their community. Of course, the ultimate goal for Gatesway and the people served is that each person will reach a level of independence that allows them to no longer require services from Gatesway. And, although we are realistic in knowing that some people served will not be able to live and work independently, we do realize that they are all capable of developing skills to move into a less restrictive environment.
Through continuing evaluation and education, Gatesway strives to improve and expand its continuum of programs and services for people with intellectual disabilities while never losing sight of the fundamental truth that every person has dignity and worth.
